BEFORE YOU FLAG thats a dude

Its a secret santa for :iconkingdomkey: of her character Tiamat a male, yet somewhat feminine in appearance, gummi shark.

I tried to make it look like he just got hit by a wave, but I'm not sure why thats really so upsetting.

In other news, natural water features are hard to paint.

Beautiful work! I very much enjoy the details in this piece, including the delicacy of the water as it washes toward shore, and the small rivulets of water on his skin! This is really an excellent work composition wise, and I adore his somewhat vulnerable expression. You mentioned not using references for the anatomy- I think the main thing I would improve in that regard is to perhaps enlarge or lengthen his arms. Also, as much as I adore his tail, I think its position makes it difficult to discern that he is actually sitting in the water. That aside, this is really a gorgeous piece, and you should be very proud! Keep it up~ :heart:

Thanks a bunch. From the sounds of things, I think my work would benefit from more structural planning from the get go, instead of just jumping in so I can get to the fun of detailing. I really appreciate the critique, as I'm afraid most of my online associates (although enthusiastically appreciative of art to be sure) don't really know the fundamentals or terminology needed to give me much input. If you ever want a critique on anything in return just let me know. :)

The details on this are breath taking ;___; The water, the rocks, and omg his face. Look at those eyes, the hair. Everything.

Ah shucks sug, I'm honored. It was no problem at all.

Details are my guilty pleasure. Although I must admit I had quite a lot of trouble getting a few things quite right, I learned a lot about perspective and water so that'll help me on future projects. :)

I'm glad you liked the way it turned out though. I'm not that great at drawing guys, so I wasn't sure how well I was doing half the time.
